Learn
Learn with our Elders and our young leaders as they thrive protecting and sharing this special place.
We specialise in education tours, whether you are just a lifelong learner, a university group, highschool or corporate group we can tailor an educational adventure like to nother. The rainforest and the reef are not just coral, trees and vines; they are a living library, a keeper of knowledge passed down through generations of the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people. This is our supermarket, our pharmacy and hardware store. Learn to see this place as we see it through our cultural knowledge and practice.
Our education tours offer the opportunity to meet and engage with a range or Eastern Kuku Yalanji people working for their corporation, Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corporation, running a suite of programs.
Spend time with the Jalabina Rangers, Foresters, Youth Programs and Indigenous Protected Area Managers. Engage with local Elders and kids through these programs and get your hands dirty making a difference with us. Meet the scientists researching on our land and hear about how they are working with us to learn the secrets of this amazing place we call home. If you would like to incorporate assessable study into your visit we will work with you providing a range of case studies and learning opportunities to fit your areas of interest.
Here, science and tradition walk hand in hand.
At the James Cook University Research Observatory you can meet scientists working with us and be lifted above the rainforest, seeing the world from a new perspective—where the treetops stretch endlessly toward the sky, forming one of the oldest and most irreplaceable ecosystems on Earth.
Scientists and Indigenous guides will share their knowledge of rainforest ecology, from animals found nowhere else in the world to the medicinal uses of native plants. This is a rare opportunity to witness the rainforest from above, to see the world through both a scientific and an Indigenous lens.
To study this place is to study the past, the future, and ourselves.
